Vale Peter Hitchcock

“Peter Hitchcock was one of Australia’s most remarkable environmentalists, with national and global contributions to forest conservation, rainforest protection, World Heritage, and national parks.

The son of a cabinet-maker, Hitchcock became the first Executive Director of the Wet Tropics Management Authority in Cairns Queensland, managing the World Heritage rainforests of far North Queensland. He took on this role following many years establishing a broad list of national parks and nature reserves in NSW, where he became Deputy Director (Policy and Wildlife).”
